Specialty Units

One of the benefits of working for the Sacramento Police Department is that we have all the career opportunities of a large city while still retaining the family environment of a smaller agency. After two years of service, officers are eligible to apply for openings in over 30 different specialty units. With this large number of specialty units to choose from, you can reach your career goals even faster with the Sacramento Police Department.

While officers are eligible for specialty units after two years of service, many choose to continue working in patrol. Patrol officers are also eligible to participate in ancillary duties such as Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), Peer Support Unit, and Unmanned Aerial Systems Unit (UAS). Patrol officers can also be selected as Field Training Officers (FTO) and tasked with training new academy graduates as they begin their law enforcement careers!
