Forensic Investigators perform a variety of functions as it relates to forensic processing and investigation. Better known as CSI (Crime Scene Investigators), they perform functions necessary to process crime scenes, processing and collection of evidence at crime scenes, and latent fingerprint collection and examination. This is a not a sworn police officer position.
Records Specialists maintain department records. They compile, prepare, organize and provide reports to other law enforcement agencies, the district attorney, and officers of the court. They also contact citizens and receive information from the public to prepare reports, while assigned to one of several police facilities within the city.
Administrative Analysts and Administrative Technicians performs professional-level duties in one or more internal support areas, including budget, finance, fleet, personnel, contracts, grants, procurement, and other assignments supporting law enforcement functions for the police department. They also compile, prepare and analyze data, as well as participate in design of system, functions and procedures for the police department.
Police Clerks perform various clerical and general duties in support of law enforcement functions for the police department. They work in various department facilities throughout the city and support essential police functions completed by sworn personnel in different units.
Student Trainees are part-time positions within the police department that are designed to enable college students to prepare for employment in the law enforcement profession upon graduation. Student Trainees may be assigned within any of the department’s units and are rotated through different work areas to expose them to various areas of the police department.
The Cadet Program is a volunteer program designed for hard-working, ambitious young people, ages 14-21, who are thinking about a career in law enforcement. This program exposes participants in various aspects of police service including: Leadership, Team Building, Critical Thinking, Community Events, Self-Defense, Traffic Control, Police Scenarios, Investigations, and more.
